A little about the Sussex Spaniel

The Sussex Spaniel is a more slow-paced dog than other Spaniels, but they are still energetic and require a large amount of exercise. They are dependable and friendly, however, are more prone to barking than other gundog breeds.

SUSSEX SPANIEL HEALTH INFORMATION

The Sussex Spaniel is generally a very healthy breed. Their major health concerns include Canine Hip Dysplasia, Intervertebral Disc Disease and more occasionally heart disease (cardiomyopathy, valvular disease). They have large amounts of hair in their ears so may be prone to ear infections (Otitis Externa). They, like Clumber Spaniels, can also experience a genetic disease known as Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Phosphatase Deficiency (PDP1), which can be screened for.
