The sweetest dog around; Moodles!
Crossed between a Maltese and a Poodle, the Moodle or Maltipoo is a popular choice of dog for a lot of reason. Undeniably adorable, this little pup was first bred in the 1990s as a companion dog and remains as one of Australia’s most popular dogs.
What are Moodles like?
Moodles are affectionate, loyal, and playful. With their dream day consisting of going on walks with their human parent and then lounging on their lap, the Moodle is the ideal companion for many homes.
Moodles are energetic; regular walks and some play time at home, or at a dog park, is both great stimulation and great socialisation for any dog. Unlike a Border Collie or German Shepherd, though, Moodles won’t require hours of exercise each day, so if you’re more of a homebody, this smaller breed may be a better fit.
As friendly dogs, Moodles are good with strangers, yet they can be protective of their home. This means that barking and territorial beh aviour can happen from time to time, but they aren’t usually physically aggressive, and their behaviour can be easily corrected with some simple training. Moodles were bred as companion dogs, which makes their favourite activity spending time with their b family. They’ll seek out your affection and love to follow you around.
Being so friendly, Moodles are great with children. However, because Moodles are so small, it’s important that children act kindly and gently around the pup, as they could be easily injured.
Moodle haircare and manicures
Like their Maltese and Poodle parents, Moodles are hypoallergenic, meaning they are far more suitable for those who suffer from allergies.
In terms of haircuts and brushing, the Moodle has moderate grooming requirements, and will need to be brushed a few times a week in order to prevent knots and matting and to keep them clean. Though low shedding, it is recommended that they get a haircut every six weeks, as having hair that’s too long will overheat the pup and make it far more difficult to maintain.
As with all dogs, their nails should be clipped every three to four weeks, and you could even sync up one of these trims with your groomer visit, if it’s offered.

Both the Maltese and the Poodle are known for their intelligence, which makes the Moodle a very smart pup! A clever dog is eager to learn and easy to train, and perfect for first-time dog owners. They’re also calm and friendly, and only require light exercise and moderate grooming. The Moodle isn’t only great for first-time pet owners, but families, single households, and the most experienced dog trainers! They suit a house, a farm, or an apartment, and regardless of where they live, they’ll want to be cuddled up right next to their family. Such a sweet, affectionate dog, the small but loving Moodle will certainly fit right into almost any home.
